MEET TOM
Proven Leadership Delivering Results for Our Community
You know me. I am a Covington kid, through and through. I’m a third generation Covingtonian who grew up in Latonia, and now live in the Peaselburg neighborhood. My parents gave me the greatest gift by sending me to school in a diverse community with teachers and role models who pushed me and cared about my success. I attribute the success I’ve had professionally to lessons I learned at home from my parents, but also the superior education I received at Latonia Elementary and Holmes High School. This education enabled me to go on and receive a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Thomas More University and a Master’s in Public Administration from Northern Kentucky University. I have spent the past four years advocating for excellent, engaged and equitable Covington schools as your elected representative on the Covington Board of Education. And I’m not finished.
Hi, I’m Tom Haggard and I’m running for re-election to the Covington Board of Education this November.
I’m running because I want the opportunity to continue to serve, continue to lead, and to finish the job of ensuring that every child growing up in our community has access to the same world-class education I received. My goals for our public-school system remain the same – our children and our community deserve schools that are excellent, engaged and equitable.I have spent my entire professional career advocating for the success of students of Covington, Northern Kentucky and beyond. For ten years, I was proud to work for Covington Partners and help grow much needed resources for our Covington students, like afterschool and summer programs, mentoring programs and more. I also spent time coaching the boys’ soccer team at Holmes High School and working to develop a system for younger players with an elementary soccer league as well as teams at Holmes Middle School. For the past five years, I’ve traveled across the Commonwealth and across the country working to increase funding and support for all kids. Our public-school system in Covington needs leaders with vision, compassion and common sense – qualities that I have tried hard to demonstrate over the past four years. I have served on our Budget Committee, continually working to ensure as many dollars as possible go to the classroom without raising taxes. With high expectations and a culture of excellence, we can ensure that every graduating senior from Holmes High School pursues their own path to success. With increased engagement in our neighborhoods, we can grow enrollment, parental engagement and community support for our schools. With an increased focus on equity, we can ensure that every student, no matter their zip code or skin color, receives an excellent education.
With your support, we can turn these goals into actions. With your support, we can build a brighter future for our kids. With your support we can build a better community for all of us.
